BrainX Pyramid
to Healthy Brain Development

To address neurodevelopmental disorders such as ADHD, Autism, and Dyslexia, it’s essential to target every factor that supports healthy brain development. Our Pyramid of Healthy Brain Development condenses 15 years of work and does just that.

This begins at the base of the pyramid with the integration of out Primitive Reflexes, which form the foundation of brain function,

Then strengthening Sensory-Motor Integration—enhancing sensory processing, balance, and coordination. By gradually building these core skills, the brain’s neural connections and networks can mature, leading to meaningful improvements in behavior and cognitive functioning.

In addition, it’s crucial to address environmental factors that impact well-being and mental health, such as optimizing breathing practices, nutrition, and positive parenting. By creating a supportive environment alongside targeted brain development strategies, we can enhance overall mental health and foster better outcomes for those with neurodevelopmental disorders.

Reinforcing your foundations

Primitive Reflex Integration – Primitive Reflexes are part of the foundation of our brains and fundamental to brain development. For optimal brain development, they must disappear by the age of three.

Reinforcing your pillars

Functional Breathing - Functional breathing is a critical physiological process that significantly influences the regulation of the autonomic nervous system. Specifically, it plays a vital role in modulating the balance between the parasympathetic (rest and digest) and sympathetic (fight or flight) branches. Through controlled breathing patterns, the body can enhance vagal tone, reduce stress responses, and promote homeostasis. Optimising this balance via functional breathing not only supports cardiovascular and respiratory health but also contributes to improved emotional regulation and cognitive function.

Nutrition - Nutrition plays a critical role in both physical health and mental well- being. A well-balanced diet, rich in essential nutrients, supports key physiological processes such as energy production, tissue repair, and immune function. Adequate nutrition also influences brain health, contributing to cognitive function, emotional stability, and overall mental resilience. The quality of our diet directly affects the body’s ability to function optimally and maintain long-term health.

Tech/Screen Time - Excessive screen time can negatively impact brain development by overstimulating the left hemisphere, which is responsible for logical reasoning and analytical thinking. This overactivation can disrupt the natural balance between the left and right hemispheres, leading to increased impulsive and compulsive behaviours. Research shows that constant exposure to fast-paced digital content can hinder the brain's ability to process information efficiently, affecting emotional regulation, decision-making, and overall cognitive development. Maintaining a balanced interaction with technology is crucial for healthy brain function, especially in children and adolescents.

Parenting – Parenting touches so many areas of our lives and is one of the most important influences on our overall environment. The role parents play is pivotal— when things go off course, it can affect everything around us. Our environment includes everything we come into contact with, and that journey starts even before birth. It’s a reminder of how much love and care goes into creating a nurturing space for our children to grow.

Sensory Motor Integration - To ensure our brain functions at its best, it's essential that all six of our senses work together in harmony. When one side of the brain becomes more dominant, it’s often the result of various factors. However, we can fine-tune brain function by engaging and balancing our senses. When our senses are optimised, the brain follows, leading to improved overall well-being and performance.
